The monthly allowance for carers increases from Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,250. The government will reimburse taxi fares to disabled children attending approved nursery schools. The budget allocated to students with special educational needs (SENS) increases from Rs 562 million to Rs 619 million.
Fifteen additional psychologists will be recruited to hospitals to provide more regular services to children with dyslexia and similar disabilities. Home medical visits, currently accessible to people aged 90 and over, will be extended to people aged 85 and over. To this end, Rs 58 million are voted for this project. Similarly, people aged 80 and over will be able, upon request, to benefit from monthly visits from a social worker to ensure their well-being.
To support this initiative, 100 young people will receive appropriate training over the next three years.
On another level, maternity leave is extended to 12 months. The first six months will be paid at full salary and the remaining six months will be optional, at half salary. Likewise, paternity leave is also extended from four to six weeks. In order to ensure greater effectiveness of our support policies for the most vulnerable citizens, the poverty threshold for the SRM is revised to take into account the impact of price increases. The eligibility threshold for the SRM system therefore increases from Rs 14,000 to Rs 16,400 from July 1, 2026 and to 17,500 rupees from July 1, 2027. The disability pension is also subject to review in order to to improve its equity, efficiency and effectiveness. To this end, a high-level technical committee, composed of representatives of relevant ministries and experts, will be established and will be required to submit its report within the first six months.
