A silent march took place this Saturday to raise public awareness and challenge the authorities on the growing problem of the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Mauritius.
Participants included activists, animal welfare advocates, volunteers who feed stray animals, and NGO representatives.
Speaking, a participant explained that the time has come for Mauritius to take into account the extent of the problem linked to canine and feline overpopulation.
“Today we face a daily problem. Every day we wake up to a case of poisoning, an abandonment, an animal hit by a car, among others,” she said.
She also denounced illegal breeding and called for concrete actions.
“Enough is enough. It is time to act. This silence is also that of the animals who suffer,” she stressed.
