The government has reviewed the conditions of access to the duty free car scheme granted to parliamentarians.
During the presentation of the 2026-2027 Budget to Parliament this Friday, the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Navin Ramgoolam, announced that MPs will now only be eligible for one duty free car per mandate, compared to one car every three years previously.
This measure is part of the policy of budgetary consolidation and reduction of public spending announced by the government.
