Between November 1, 2025 and April 23, 2026, the Cyber Crime Unit handled 116 cybercrime cases, of which only one was brought before the Court and six led to arrests, with release on bail. The other files are still under investigation, in a context where the authorities say they are facing an increase and increased complexity of digital crimes.

The response provided to Parliament indicates that this specialist unit operates under the responsibility of an Assistant Superintendent of Police and reports to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime). It currently has 17 officers, including two ASPs, an inspector, eight sergeants and six constables.

Faced with the rise in digital crimes, the authorities recognize constraints and announce a strengthening of resources. An integrated operational framework has been put in place, with technical support provided on an ongoing basis by the Police IT Unit. This collaboration includes a digital forensic laboratory, operational since the signing of a memorandum of understanding on January 28, 2026 between the Computer Emergency Response Team, the police and the Data Protection Office.

Specialized training is also provided to officers to strengthen their skills in digital investigations and forensics.

On the international level, Mauritius requested support from India. After discussions with Maharashtra Cyber and delegation visits at the end of 2025, the authorities opted for direct collaboration with Delhi. Discussions are underway around the establishment of a command center, the strengthening of investigation capacities and the improvement of the national response system to cybercrimes.

At the same time, amendments to the Cyber Security and Cyber Crime Act are being prepared in order to strengthen the legal framework, particularly with regard to the protection of children online and obligations for service providers.
