A serious work accident occurred on Friday April 30 in D’Épinay, in the north of Mauritius. A 44-year-old mason was seriously injured after a concrete structure (slab) collapsed on a construction site.
According to information reported to the Pamplemousses police, the victim was working with a colleague laying a slab on the ground floor of a home when the incident occurred, around 8 a.m. At some point, the concrete structure allegedly gave way, causing it to fall.
Seriously injured, the man was rushed to SSRN hospital. After receiving first aid, he was admitted to the intensive care unit. His state of health is considered critical and he is currently on artificial respiration.
An investigation has been opened to shed light on the exact circumstances of this accident.
