Two men aged 31 and 32 were found lifeless on Saturday April 25 in a villa under construction in Pereybère. Grand-Baie police have opened an investigation to establish the exact circumstances of these deaths. The possibility of an overdose is, at this stage, being considered by investigators.
An investigation was opened by the Grand-Baie police after the discovery of the lifeless bodies of two masons aged 31 and 32, on Saturday April 25. Both men worked on the site and had also resided there for some time. At this stage of the investigation, the police favor the theory of a drug overdose.
The macabre discovery was made on Saturday morning by the owner of the premises, a lawyer, who went to the site after noting the unusual absence of the workers in the surveillance camera images and having tried, in vain, to contact them by telephone.
When police arrived, the two inert bodies were discovered in the bathroom, one lying on top of the other, with two syringes nearby. A doctor from the Urgent Medical Aid Service (Samu), dispatched to the site, confirmed the deaths. Syringes and a metal box found in the villa were placed under seal for analysis.
According to the owner, he did not know the victims personally and dealt only with their employer, a construction contractor. He specified that the two masons were assigned to construction work, notably a swimming pool, and that they were temporarily staying on the site after their working hours.
The autopsies, carried out the same day by the head of the forensic department, Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, concluded that deaths were due to pulmonary edema. The two victims were from Petite-Rivière and Richelieu.
On Saturday, the bodies were handed over to relatives after forensic examinations. Family members of the deceased were also interviewed by the police as part of the investigation, which is continuing to establish the exact circumstances of these deaths.
