A sophisticated attempt to smuggle drugs into the high-security Melrose prison was foiled on Monday, highlighting the increasingly ingenious methods used to circumvent prison security. around 10:25 a.m. when prison officers, stationed in the X-ray control room, noticed anomalies during the inspection of objects brought by visitors. Four Varta brand batteries attract particular attention. After verification, three of them turned out to have been modified to conceal their contents. Inside, the officers discovered a significant quantity of white powder mixed with stone fragments, which would be a dangerous drug. But the surprise does not stop there because four 16 GB memory cards as well as two SIM cards were also found hidden in these devices. The incriminated objects had been introduced by a visitor (46 years old), accompanied by her daughter (22 years old). The two women had come to the establishment to visit inmate Tavish Ausmann, who is serving a 35-year prison sentence for double murder. Alerted, the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) immediately went to the scene to take possession of the evidence and open an investigation. A raid on the home of the two suspects, located in Bon-Accueil, did not, however, reveal any other compromising element. Placed in detention at the Vacoas police station on the orders of Assistant Police Commissioner Ghoorun, the two women will now have to explain their involvement alleged in this attempt to supply drugs in a prison environment. Tavish Ausmann will be heard in this case later. The Assize Court sentenced him to 35 years in prison for the murder of Yeshna Rughoobin (13 years old) and Reshma Rughoobin (54 years old). The offense took place in Camp-de-Masque-Pavé on February 26, 2016 when the defendant was only 17 years old. He was in love with the minor and he had arrived at her home. Tavish Ausmann found himself face to face with the minor's grandmother who did not approve of his behavior. He had stabbed Reshma Rughoobin. As Yeshna Rughoobin returned home, she tried to flee when she saw the fifty-year-old bleeding. Tavish Ausmann overpowered her before killing her. He also injured Yeshna Rughoobin's younger brother. It was in January 2022 that the court sentenced him to 35 years in prison. Tavish Ausmann is serving his sentence at Melrose High Security Prison.
