The president of the Mauritius Tamil Temples Federation (MTTF), Darssen Chengadoo, facing the press and surrounded by his members, describes the next celebration of the Tamil New Year - also called Thamizh Puttaandu, the 5128th in the Tamil calendar, and scheduled for April 14 - of “historic day”. And to remind that this day will be “filled with activities and entertainment”. Through the help of the honorary consulate of Tamil Nadu, represented by Malaiappan Nagalingam, and the assistance of the Junior Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rajen Narsinghen, a group of 33 people from Tamil Nadu are currently in Mauritius, and will be present at MGI for a big show on New Year's Day. This collective is made up of 24 artists and seven chefs. This delegation also brought with it around 500 kg of food in order to prepare traditional dishes and complete their program, planned over three days across the island, from April 14 to 16, in the presence of their guru. Dishes that will undoubtedly delight the taste buds of Mauritians. Thus, all those who love good cuisine will taste authentic dishes such as Khuzi Paniyaram (sweet and savory dessert), Panagam (sweetened drink with Jaggery, an unrefined sugar), Nei Rice (rice with Ghee, traditional Tamil dish), Khatarika Thokku (eggplant curry), or Thakkali Rasam (a type of spicy tomato soup), among many others. Note that Mauritians will also be able to participate in a mini-workshop with chefs sent by the Tamil Nadu state government.
