A free public conference, entitled Action Against Genocide, will be organized this Saturday, April 25 in the municipality of Port-Louis. The event aims to raise awareness among the Mauritian public of the issues linked to the conflicts in Palestine, Lebanon and Iran, and to encourage citizen mobilization.
Initiated by the Never Again Olive Resistance (NAOR) movement, in collaboration with Lalit and Doctors to Gaza, this meeting is intended to be a call for collective commitment in the face of ongoing violence and injustice on an international scale. Several speakers will speak during this conference.
Dr. Anne Moro, Executive Member of Doctors to Gaza, will share her experience within the Global Sumud Flotilla in 2025, as well as her perspectives as she approaches her next participation. Sarah Khan, co-founder of NAOR, will discuss the role of the boycott as a tool for citizen action, highlighting the capacity of collective actions to bring about concrete change.
Lindsey Collen, co-founder of Lalit, will present a four-point plan recently submitted to the government by several associations and unions, calling for protective measures in the context of international conflicts. A question-and-answer session will also allow the public to interact directly with the speakers.
Sarah Khan explained the importance of holding this event at this time, stating that "for three years, the world has witnessed violence and destruction on an unimaginable scale." She affirmed that these realities cannot be considered in isolation, believing that the history of Mauritius, marked by slavery and the forced displacement of the Chagossians, allows us to better understand the effects of power imbalances and influences. imperial powers on a global scale. She added that this meeting aims to reflect on the way in which Mauritian society can, collectively, respond to the systems which, for it, continue to perpetuate violence and injustice, and to explore ways of using the force of community to foster real change.
Open, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., to all and without entry fees or prior registration, the conference invites the population to participate in this moment of exchange and reflection on current international issues.
