The investigation into the murder of Bryan Alifoykooye, 35, reaches a crucial stage. Laura Beatrice Travady, his 29-year-old common-law wife and main suspect, is currently behind bars in Rodrigues. Two investigators from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), including a police officer, travel to the autonomous island to conduct a first close interview.

The drama unfolded under the marital roof, at Cité La Brasserie, Forest-Side. According to the conclusions of the forensic doctor, the victim's death dates back to Thursday April 9, 2026. However, information collected on the ground indicates that the suspect had been considering her departure for some time, seeking to end her relationship and leave the country discreetly.

In this enterprise, she would have benefited from the help of Steven Rungen, also 29 years old. The latter would have welcomed her the same evening of the fatal attack, before organizing her transfer to the airport on Saturday April 11. Equipped with her ticket, Laura Travady boarded for Rodrigues with her young child.

When she got off the plane at Plaine-Corail airport, the young woman went to visit relatives in Montagne-Cabri. His freedom was short-lived: on Saturday evening, a joint operation by the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU), the Central Investigation Division (CID) of Rodrigues and the intelligence services led to his arrest.

From now on, the MCIT sleuths are focusing their efforts on several gray areas, starting with the search for evidence, because the authorities suspect the suspect of having gotten rid of evidence during her short stay on the island. The investigation also aims to identify possible complicity in order to determine whether relatives were guilty of “criminal harbouring” by facilitating his hiding. Finally, the investigators wish to obtain details on the progress of the escape and the logistical preparations which allowed this hasty departure.

Currently detained at the Rivière-Coco police station, Laura Beatrice Travady will be returned to Mauritius as soon as the procedures in Rodrigues are completed. She will then be handed over to the Curepipe CID and the MCIT to formally respond to the charge of murder against her.
