The grievances of the residents of constituency No. 15 were loudly heard during a meeting held on Thursday at the Ministry of Land Transport, in the presence of Junior Minister Fawzi Allymun, local elected officials and the mayor of Vacoas-Phoenix. This meeting, the second of its kind, chaired by Osman Mahomed, allowed residents to expose the persistent difficulties linked to public transport.

For the residents of Petit-Camp who had to come to Pont-Fer to get buses, a big step was taken when the NLTA granted their request for a line for travelers from this suburb.

Taking note of these grievances, Minister Osman Mahomed indicated that the National Land Transport Authority (NLTA) has taken an important step by considering the provision of buses for residents of Petit-Camp. This measure, if it comes to fruition, should improve accessibility and reduce the difficulties encountered by the inhabitants of this locality.

Coming from several localities, notably Highlands, Cinq-Arpents, Camp-Fouquereaux, Belle-Terre, Hermitage and Petit-Camp, residents responded in large numbers to express their fed up with a service deemed “insufficient and unreliable”.

Among the main complaints raised are the lack of buses on certain lines, particularly during peak hours, as well as non-compliance with timetables. Many users reported long waits at stops, complicating their daily trips to work or school for their children.

Participants also denounced a lack of cooperation on the part of certain drivers and conductors who do not follow their routes as established by the NLTA. According to them, the behavior of certain staff members does not facilitate communication with passengers, which aggravates users' frustration.

The authorities have assured that these concerns will be taken into consideration as part of efforts to improve the public transport network. Residents are now expecting concrete and rapid action to remedy a situation that has persisted for several years.
