On the occasion of Labor Day, Reaz Chuttoo, president of the Confederation of Public and Private Sector Workers (CTSP), took part this morning in a march in the streets of Rose-Hill.
He was very critical of the Minister of Social Security, Ashok Subron. “Never again will I work for Subron if I am going to die,” he declared to the press.
He also targeted the minister's positions: “Fer atansyon a bann false prophet, Ashok Subron finn dir yer ki nou bizin mobilize kont kapitalis pu gainn semenn 40 hours…B li li pa ti bizin mobilize kont kapitalis kan p ras pansyon vyeyes fer vinn 65 ans… Okontrer li mem ine sign lalwa…”
For the trade unionist, the current economic situation calls for collective mobilization. He points to several government measures: the freezing of wages maintained for four years, the introduction of a "labor contractor" system allowing foreign workers to be "rented" from several employers, tax rebates of six billion rupees granted to capitalists, and the reform of the old age pension, which according to him only generates 1.8 billion rupees.
“We have an ultra-liberal government,” he said. We are entering a class struggle, where the poor will become extremely poor and the middle class will become poorer, so we need mobilization, emphasizes Reaz Chuttoo.
