It is a mistake about the person who cost the life of Jaisen Soorea (22 years old), early Wednesday morning, in the parking lot of the public beach of Saint-Félix. He was stabbed in the stomach. During his interrogation, the suspect Anandasamy Ponnan (37) confessed to his act. However, he said he was a “dimounn rat” because he wanted to attack other people.
In his first statements to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Chemin-Grenier, Jaisen Soorea recounted having had an argument with a group of young people after a party which took place the day before on the beach. The 30-year-old doesn't really remember the cause of this argument, but said he was beaten. He then wanted revenge by grabbing a knife.
According to Anandasamy Ponnan, it was around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning and it was pitch black. There were several individuals having fun and drinking in the beach parking lot. He said he saw a group of young people and believed it was them he had argued with earlier. Except it was Jaisen Soorea and three other friends who were there to have a good time for the Tamil New Year.
Anandasamy Ponnan injured four people who tried to disarm him and had to deliver a blow to Jaisen Soorea's chest. He said he had no intention of killing, but conceded he was very angry. After the attack, he fled. It was thanks to information deemed reliable and sustained investigative work, carried out by the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit of the South and the Chemin-Grenier CID that the police were able to arrest the attacker a few hours after the crime.
Anandasamy Ponnan was indicted on a provisional charge of murder at the Souillac court the following day. The police objected to his release on bail, he was kept in preventive detention. In the meantime, the police searched his house in Rose-Belle where they seized a pair of shorts that he was wearing at the time of the tragedy, as well as a belt. Furthermore, the funeral of Jaisen Soorea took place on Thursday in an atmosphere heavy with sadness. Described as an uneventful worker, he leaves behind deeply affected loved ones. The police investigation continues into this case.
