[Satirically yours] “Pineapple” revelations

On July 13, 2024, Vikram Hurdoyal, dismissed ex-minister, made a statement on Facebook that could well make one green with envy for an overripe fruit salad. Between two bursts of pineapple, he asked the public to be patient to find out the reasons for his dismissal as minister and his resignation as deputy. Like a juicy pineapple, it promises us tasty revelations at the right time.

On July 18, the time for revelations came, and Vikram Hurdoyal chose Radio Plus to peel his reasons like one peels a pineapple. As soon as he listed the four reasons for his ouster provided by the Prime Minister, Nawaz Noorbux, like a sharp knife in a ripe pineapple, points out contradictions. A shareholder in a pineapple growing and exporting company, he would have taken advantage of a private mission to meet buyers. To defend himself, like a pineapple seeking to justify its crown of leaves, he tried to launch an argument that seemed banal: he had to present his successor in the flesh to the buyers for the handover... four years later.

The highlight of the show will be when he tried to play on the heartstrings by presenting a bank statement showing a balance of only Rs 92 at one point of time. He is confronted with photos of his two luxury cars, worth millions of rupees, posted on his Facebook page. Vikram Hurdoyal must have felt his hopes of sympathy melt away like a grilled pineapple on a barbecue. Or the pineapple, already spicy, was starting to become bitter.

The exercise of revelations took an even more acidic turn when a few slices of his private life were mentioned. Disappointed and disconcerted, Hurdoyal left the radio, disoriented, leaving behind the smell of overripe pineapple.

Vikram Hurdoyal, probably thinking he was playing a leading role in a Shakespearean tragedy, ended up looking like a poorly peeled pineapple: prickly, embarrassing and ultimately unappetizing.

Just like pineapple can be sweet or sour, the truth can have two tastes. Vikram Hurdoyal may have thought his arguments would be as sweet as the pineapple he exports, but the show “At the Heart of the News” revealed some unexpected thorns.

So the next time you eat a pineapple, remember that each slice has its story, sometimes sweet, sometimes tangy.
