The first of a series of consultative meetings as decided by the council of ministers was held yesterday at the Ministry of Land Transport. Anil Bachoo, Ajay Gunness and Osman Mahomed announced, in the presence of the NLTA and the president of the Taxi Operators Welfare Fund, their intention to meet all the partners concerned by this online platform affair. Since 2006, several of them have been operating in Mauritius, namely Motaxi, Yugo, Alalila, Dodogo, Finova, Vite, Elite and Mokabb.
Since Alalila joined forces with Uber to use its technology, there has been discontent and legal action. While waiting for the Court to decide, the interministerial committee will continue discussions keeping in mind the interests of all parties concerned and taking into account the modernity, digitalization and modernization of our transport policy. Without forgetting that Mauritius is perhaps a unique experience in the world with its taxis and their bases of operations.
Following representations made by taxi drivers regarding the entry into operation of the Ala-lila online platform powered by Uber for taxi services, the Cabinet established, on April 17, a committee comprising ministers Anil Bachoo, Ajay Gunness and Osman Mahomed to study the whole issue and make recommendations to the government.
