At the call of the case concerning Frédéric Pavaday this Tuesday, April 28 before the Curepipe court, Detective Inspector Ramburn was called to the witness box to report on the progress of the investigation.
Responding to questions from defense lawyers, Me Sacheen Boodhoo and Me Sanjeev Teeluckdharry, the investigator indicated that the case is no longer at an “early stage”. He specified that several statements have already been taken, in particular those of the alleged victims. He also highlighted that a Judge's Order was obtained to allow access to a detailed statement (itemized bill) from the telecommunications companies, in order to analyze the communication data of the accused.
DI Ramburn further confirmed that reconstruction exercises have already been carried out, while emphasizing that some elements of the investigation still remain to be completed.
Asked about possible confessions, he declared that Frédéric Pavaday contests the accusations of illegal acts. However, he admitted certain elements, in particular having admitted to having been in a relationship with one of the alleged victims, while denying having had sexual relations with a minor.
For her part, the representative of the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Me Nadjiyya Dauhoo, indicated that the prosecution does not oppose the conditional release of the suspect, subject to strict conditions.
Thus, the court granted bail to Frédéric Pavaday on condition of a deposit of Rs 70,000 rupees and the signing of an acknowledgment of debt of Rs 300,000.
Among the conditions imposed, the accused must report daily to the police station between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., and inform the authorities of his movements as well as the people with whom he is or will be in contact. He is also strictly prohibited from entering into communication, directly or indirectly, with the alleged victims or possible witnesses, including via third parties.
The accused will also not be able to use social networks – in particular Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or WhatsApp – to contact these people. Any attempt at communication, including by telephone or intermediary calls, is strictly prohibited.
