The Northern Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit has arrested two brothers suspected of being involved in a series of robberies across the country.

They are Kailash and Yashwan Jeelall, aged 32 and 30 respectively.

While investigating a series of thefts reported in Grand-Baie, Terre-Rouge and Grand-Gaube, the investigators' suspicions fell on these repeat offenders.

In Grand-Baie, the two brothers are accused of theft by their sister. This 36-year-old woman claims that Rs 14,500 disappeared from her wardrobe at the beginning of March. She suspects her two brothers of being the perpetrators of this theft. She relates that one searched her cupboard while the other kept watch outside.

At the end of February, in a complaint to the Terre-Rouge police station, an entrepreneur accused Yashwan Jeelall of stealing his bag which contained Rs 25,000 and bank cards, among other things. By viewing the video surveillance, he saw his employee committing this crime.

At the beginning of April, an employee of a guest house in Calodyne, in Grand-Gaube, filed a complaint for the theft of money and a cell phone with a total value of Rs 30,000.

The two brothers were identified by investigators and on Friday April 10 they were arrested on the grounds of the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam national hospital in Pamplemousses.

They will also be questioned about the theft of a dozen pigs from a pigsty in Saint-Martin. The owner of the place accuses the two brothers.

Yashwan Jeelall, questioned by the Terre-Rouge criminal police, admitted that he stole his employer's bag.
