The Minister of the Environment, Rajesh Bhagwan, indicates that several projects are underway to strengthen the management of water resources, particularly in terms of supply, treatment and evacuation of wastewater.

He specifies that the National Water Policy is being revised and that a Strategic Integrated Master Plan for the entire water sector will also be developed.

On the environmental level, the minister recalls that riparian reserves are protected by the Forest and Reserves Act. Reinforced patrols are carried out by the forest service to ensure compliance with regulations.

As part of a climate resilience approach, several mini-forests have been created across the country, both in urban and rural areas.

Furthermore, a pilot rehabilitation project is underway in the Mare-aux-Vacoas catchment area, in partnership with the NGO Natir. Around five thousand five hundred (5,500) endemic trees have already been planted over an area of ​​four hectares.

Finally, the National Parks and Conservation Service is also monitoring the development of a new wetland in Les Salines, Rivière-Noire, carried out by New Mauritius Hotels Ltd, in accordance with the environmental impact permit.
