The 2026 FIFA World Cup is fast approaching. SuperSport and DStv, subsidiaries of the MultiChoice group, a company belonging to CANAL+, are working hard to ensure the broadcast of the competition to subscribers in English-speaking Africa, including in Mauritius. Africa's largest sports broadcaster, SuperSport, a subsidiary of the MultiChoice group, has announced that it will bring the 2026 FIFA World Cup live to English-speaking countries on the continent, to the delight of football fans. The tournament, which increases from 32 to 48 participating nations, will begin in Mexico City on June 11 2026 and will end with the final scheduled in New Jersey on July 19. This expansion makes this edition the longest in the history of the FIFA World Cup, with a record number of matches on the program. Supporters are therefore expected to experience a particularly rich and extensive edition of the competition.

Historical African participation

Africa will be represented by its largest contingent in its history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with ten nations from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) qualifiers.

These ten teams – Ghana, South Africa, Senegal, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and the Democratic Republic of Congo – will bring color, intensity and traditional African atmosphere at this great football festival organized in North America.

To accompany this historic event, SuperSport is also planning enriched programming, including new sports magazines, new faces on air, as well as analysis shows and masterclasses hosted by African and international football experts.

The director of sports content for English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa at CANAL+, Rendani Ramovha, underlined the importance of this edition. He said: “We are delighted to announce that our subscribers in English-speaking Africa will be able to experience another historic FIFA World Cup moment on Your World of Champions, SuperSport. »He added that the strong African presence, the largest ever recorded, gives a particular dimension to this edition, recalling in particular that of 2010. He indicates that this coverage aims to make the event even more accessible via the DStv English Plus Add-on bouquet with CANAL+. He also specified that specific content will be offered, adapted to different cultures and integrating certain local African languages.
