Marielle Celine Monple, 24, was arrested on Friday, May 1 at Résidence Ste Claire, by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) Northern, after the discovery of drugs valued at Rs 2.1 million. The young woman thus becomes the third member of the Marie family, identified by the authorities as an important link, to be arrested in an investigation into a drug trafficking network in the North.

The operation took place shortly before 8 a.m. on Avenue Hortensia, during a raid led by the Grand-Baie anti-drug brigade, supported by MARCOS commandos and units from the Special Supporting Unit. The police raided the young woman's home as part of an investigation targeting a suspected active supply point despite several arrests already made in the same family.

On site, investigators seized a large quantity of drugs: 83.20 grams of heroin, 32.32 grams of methamphetamine, 86.50 grams of synthetic drug, as well as 105 doses of synthetic drug, 23 doses of heroin and 10 doses of methamphetamine. Marielle Celine Monple was arrested and provisionally charged with “Drug Dealing”.

The father, Jean François Marie, alias France, was arrested on March 25 after the seizure of methamphetamine, 24 doses of heroin, an electronic scale and Rs 112,650 in cash, for an estimated value of Rs 738,150. He is still detained.

A few days earlier, on March 19, the son, Jean Daniel Marie, had been targeted by a police raid. According to sleuths, he tried to get rid of 117 doses of heroin. He also allegedly made threats against the police: “Pa pou kapav aret mwa zordi”, before inciting the crowd to oppose the police intervention, forcing the bloodhounds to retreat. He subsequently surrendered himself prisoner on April 14.

For his part, on April 9, Curtis Warren Ah Ton, son-in-law of Jean François Marie, was also targeted during an Adsu Northern operation. He is accused of having thrown away several bags containing 41 doses of heroin, 145 doses of synthetic drug and 23.50 grams of heroin granules, for an estimated value of Rs 387,500. He managed to escape with the help of two residents. The latter were fined for obstruction after preventing police access, forcing the units to temporarily withdraw to avoid a confrontation. Curtis Warren Ah Ton finally took himself prisoner on April 20.

Adsu interventions in Cité Ste Claire are regularly carried out with a reinforced system, including MARCOS and the Special Supporting Unit, due to risks of resistance and disturbances to public order.
