A case combining knife threats, rebellion and clashes with police officers took place in the Cap-Malheureux region on Wednesday. A 25-year-old resident, employed as a driver and residing in Pavillon, was arrested in the evening after a turbulent intervention by the police at his home. According to the complaint filed at the Grand-Baie police station, a schoolgirl from 16 year old, also living in Pavillon, was targeted by her former lover in the afternoon. The teenager explained that she was at a bus stop near a place of worship when the suspect, seated behind the bus shelter, called her. Ignoring the latter, she continued on her way towards her home. A few moments later, while she was driving on a side road in the locality, the young man reappeared in front of her before taking a penknife from the pocket of his pants and uttering serious death threats against her. Panicked, the minor fled. However, she claims to have again saw the suspect not far from a neighborhood chapel, where he continued to make threatening and provocative remarks. Fearing that he would carry out his threats, she decided to report the facts to the police in the presence of her mother. A few hours later, police officers went to the suspect's home to arrest him. According to the police, the young man refused to comply after being informed of his constitutional rights. The police say he was aggressive, using abusive words before grabbing a large shell in an attempt to intimidate. The situation quickly degenerated when a group of hostile individuals gathered at the scene with the aim of hindering the arrest. Despite police warnings about obstructing an official operation, several people physically confronted the officers. During the stampede, one of the officers was pushed to the ground and his uniform was torn. The police indicated that they used minimal force in order to disperse the crowd and subdue the young man, who was finally forced into a police vehicle before being driven away. at the station for the purposes of the investigation. The police officer involved in the altercation, although he does not present any visible injury, is said to be suffering from bodily pain. He received five days of sick leave after a medical examination at the SSRNH hospital. The suspect was placed in detention at the Piton center. The investigation continues to identify and find the other individuals suspected of having participated in the acts of violence against the police officers.
