Cables estimated at more than 10 million rupees were stolen from the New Social Living Development site in Terre-Rouge, where social housing is currently under construction.

The thefts were allegedly committed between December 9 and April 27, despite the presence of permanent surveillance on the site. The suspect allegedly managed to enter the construction site at least seven times.

Following these incidents, a joint police operation by the DCIU North and the Terre-Rouge CID was carried out yesterday. Around 12:30 p.m., police officers on surveillance spotted an individual leaving the site with a bag in circumstances considered suspicious. Upon seeing the officers, he abandoned the bag before fleeing towards a bushy area. A prosecution was initiated, initially without success.

About thirty minutes later, the suspect was seen in Jin Fei's area, attempting to change his outfit. Recognized by the police, he tried to flee again before being intercepted.

During the search, the police found several electrical cables, a pair of scissors and a bolt cutter in his bag.

When questioned, the suspect, a 22-year-old resident of Rivière-des-Anguilles, admitted to having cut cables on the NSLD construction site and admitted his involvement in several similar thefts on the same site. It is also suspected of being linked to other cases in the South.
