On April 10, at the Mahogany shopping center in Beau-Plan, a foreign national filed a complaint at the Pamplemousses police station for the theft of a rear-view mirror from his car. He estimates this loss at Rs 8,000.

Then, it was in the parking lot of the Riche-Terre shopping center that other owners experienced similar thefts. The rearview mirror of a Toyota Vitz was stolen on April 11. On April 18, another mirror from another Toyota Vitz was stolen. The mirror of another car which was in the courtyard of a private firm was also stolen. These mirror thefts were reported to the Terre-Rouge and Pamplemousses police stations.

The Northern Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit carried out a careful investigation on the ground and a review of video surveillance made it possible to spot, on April 18, a man stealing the rear-view mirror of a Toyota Aqua. He fled in another car.

The Pamplemousses criminal police arrested two members of the same family. During their interrogation, they implicated Yaseer Kardaree. The latter, questioned by the criminal police (CID) of the North, also admitted his involvement in the theft of car mirrors in the North.

On Monday April 20, he answered charges of theft before the Pamplemousses court and was fined Rs 20,000.

He was then arrested by the Grand-Baie CID for a similar theft in La Croisette. For this theft, the Pamplemousses court sentenced him to prison.

Two relatives of the suspect were also arrested and questioned as part of this investigation.
