Incivility reigns supreme on the sidewalks. It most often results in the monopolization of street vendors and the scourge of illegal parking of vehicles. We thought we had seen it all until residents of Trou-aux-Biches sent us the grotesque image of a container installed in front of a store, on the sidewalk (parking) located at the corner of the coastal road and Avenue Sirène. On the grounds that renovation work is underway in the said store, its owner has therefore found a trick to continue his operations: transform a container into a temporary business and place it on the public highway, forcing passers-by to move onto the road, at the risk of being run over by vehicles circulating at full speed. After having succeeded, after long years of struggle, in stemming the scourge of uncontrolled parking in Trou-aux-Biches, the authorities had an interest in very quickly taking the bull by the horns, otherwise certain practices would settle permanently along pedestrian paths and are not assimilated by the perpetrators of these offenses to an acquired right and a freedom. “We were stunned when we saw this large container blocking access to pedestrians! You have to have a lot of nerve to ignore the laws in force! The Forces Vives of Trou-aux-Biches are launching an appeal to the Village Council of Trou aux Biches, to the District Council of Pamplemousses, to the Road Development Authority (RDA), and to the police and deputies to take the necessary actions to instigate ordered this owner to remove his container store from the sidewalk and free the public highway,” confides a local resident. Week-End contacted the Village Council of Trou-aux-Biches, which confirms that its president has alerted the Pamplemousses District Council, which intends to crack down this week.
