A heavy rain watch is in effect in Mauritius until 4 p.m. this Friday, April 24.
Atmospheric conditions remain unstable in the region, favoring the formation of active clouds, indicates a press release from the Vacoas meteorological station issued at 4:30 a.m.
The sky will be partly overcast in the morning, becoming cloudy at times with showers. These could sometimes be moderate to locally strong, accompanied by thunderstorms.
Temporary accumulations of water are likely in flood-prone areas. Pockets of fog are also expected in some areas, reducing visibility.
The maximum temperature will vary between 25 and 27°C on high ground, and between 29 and 31°C in coastal regions.
The wind will blow from the east at around 25 km/h, with gusts reaching 50 km/h.
The sea will be rough beyond the reefs with southwest swells of around 3 meters. Outings on the high seas are not recommended.
The public is advised:
to stay sheltered and avoid the plains, hikes and sea trips;
not to shelter under trees during storms;
avoid places prone to accumulation of water;
to exercise extreme caution on the roads due to reduced visibility caused by showers and fog.
