Mauritius has been under a heavy swell warning since 4:00 a.m. this Friday, May 1. This will remain valid until 4:00 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday May 2. This is what emerges from the forecast bulletin from the Vacoas weather station, issued this morning.

As a result, the sea will be very rough beyond the reefs, with southwest swells of around 4 meters. Waves could break into low-lying coastal areas to the west and south, especially during high tides.

Fishermen, boaters and the general public are strongly advised not to go out to sea and, during high tides, not to venture onto the beaches.

Furthermore, clouds associated with the remnants of a frontal system influence the local weather at times.

“The weather will be partly overcast to cloudy this morning, with intermittent rain mainly over the southern half of the island and the central plateau. These rains could be locally moderate. Partly overcast in the afternoon, with light rain on the heights,” indicates the meteorological services.

The sky will be rather cloudy overnight, with intermittent rain mainly in the east, south and on the central plateau. Pockets of fog are expected, especially on higher ground.

Temperatures

The maximum temperature will be between 23 and 26°C in high terrain and between 28 and 30°C in coastal regions. The minimum temperature will oscillate between 19 and 21°C on the central plateau and between 23 and 25°C on the coast.

The wind will blow from the southeast at around 25 km/h, with gusts reaching 60 km/h in places.
