ADSU raid: more than Rs 55 million seizures in one day

The day of Wednesday July 29 was particularly fruitful for the sleuths of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU). In the space of a few hours, five operations carried out in different regions of the country led to the seizure of drugs with a total value estimated at more than Rs 55 million. Two successive interventions at Cité EDC, Olivia, resulted in seizures of Cannabis with a market value of Rs 3.597 million and Rs 9.493 million respectively. In Baie-du-Tombeau, investigators discovered drugs estimated at Rs 14 million, while two other operations in Camp-Le-Vieux and Trèfles, in Rose-Hill, led to the seizure of narcotics valued respectively at Rs 20.22 million and Rs 7.75 million. These five searches led to the arrest of five suspects, four men and one woman, who are now in custody.

In Olivia, the ADSU of Flacq launched a first operation at Cité EDC around 7:45 a.m. A 60-year-old man, unemployed and living in the locality, was arrested. During the intervention, the police seized five transparent plastic packages containing a total of 2.3 kg of leaves suspected of being cannabis. Two electronic scales bearing traces of drugs were also recovered. The market value of the seized cannabis is estimated at Rs 3.597 million.

A second team from the ADSU of Flacq intervened in the same locality. This operation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old woman, unemployed and living in Olivia.

The police discovered three packages containing 970 g of suspected cannabis as well as five vacuum-sealed packages containing 5.3 kg of cannabis, for a total of 6.27 kg. The value of this seizure is estimated at Rs 9.493 million. A sum of Rs 183,500 in cash was also seized. The investigation also concerns money laundering.

In Baie-du-Tombeau, ADSU Metro North, for its part, searched the home of a 26-year-old man. The police discovered several substances suspected of being drugs there, in different forms and in several packages.

In total, 404.17 g of suspected synthetic cannabinoids, 36.04 g of suspected cocaine and 589.27 g of suspected cannabis were seized. An electronic scale bearing traces of drugs as well as several containers used to store the substances were also recovered. The value of this seizure is estimated at Rs 14 million.

Operations also continued in Camp-Le-Vieux, Rose-Hill, ADSU Western searched the home and outbuildings of a 22-year-old man. The police got their hands on three packages containing respectively 492 g of cocaine, 406 g of crystal meth and 436 g of heroin.
