Alleged trafficking of 155.7 kg of cannabis: Ravindra Chimajee held in police cell

Ravindra Chimajee, alias “Kris”, appeared before the Bambous court on Tuesday, where he was provisionally charged with conspiracy to import drugs, as part of the investigation into the alleged trafficking of 155.7 kg of cannabis, with an estimated street value of Rs 233.5 million.

The court ordered him to be kept in a police cell. His next appearance is scheduled for August 11.

Ravindra Chimajee is the second suspect arrested by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) in this case, after Gulshan Govind, the husband of former Junior Minister Véronique Leu-Govind.

According to investigators, he is suspected of having been part of the crew which went to Reunion during this alleged “drug trip”. Arrested on Friday, he was admitted to a clinic for health reasons before being released on medical leave on Monday. After a first night in cell, he was brought to court this Tuesday.

The investigation continues to determine the responsibilities of each person and the ramifications of this alleged network between Mauritius and Reunion.
