On May 20, the Mapou court granted bail to Mohammad Muzafar Ali Lallmamode, 32. The latter responds to a provisional charge of premeditated assault, committed on May 1, 2026, in a nightclub in Grand-Baie.

Magistrate Dr Bibi Zeenat Cassamally imposed a bail of Rs 8,000 and an acknowledgment of debt of Rs 40,000. Mohammad Muzafar Ali Lallmamode must report to the police station nearest to his home every Saturday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. A curfew is imposed on him from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. He is prohibited from having contact with witnesses.

Arrested on May 13, 2026, Mohammad Muzafar Ali Lallmamode, through his lawyer Mr. Neil Pillay, presented a motion for his release on bail. The police objected, citing a risk of interference with witnesses, manipulation of evidence and obstruction of justice.

Sergeant Soobrayen, during the debates, explained that Julien Noël filed a complaint for premeditated assault on May 6. The latter declared that he was with his brother, Guillaume Noël, at the Insomnia Nightclub in Grand-Baie on May 1, 2026.

According to the complaint, Guillaume Noël offered a woman a drink and an altercation broke out. Mohammad Muzafar Ali Lallmamode allegedly hit Guillaume Noël in the head with a bottle.

Magistrate Dr Bibi Zeenat Cassamally noted that Guillaume Noël did not register a complaint against the defendant. The police relied on the testimony of his brother. Furthermore, the court noted that Mohammad Muzafar Ali Lallmamode voluntarily presented himself at the police station on May 13, 2026. There was no evidence that he attempted to influence witnesses, hence the decision to grant him bail.
