“There can be no equality without security.” To this end, violations of Protection Orders will become a criminal offense. A new domestic violence bill will strengthen protection orders. A coordinating committee on gender-based violence will be established to ensure a rapid and interinstitutional response. Victims of gender-based violence will also benefit from support through financial independence training. To better protect vulnerable children, a new National Adoption Bill will establish a modern legal framework for the adoption of children, while providing for the creation of a dedicated adoption authority. The strengthening of the Foster Care Advisory Unit is also on the agenda. The regulations relating to foster care will be revised in order to establish a simplified assessment for candidates for foster care and to establish a more solid network of qualified foster families across the island. Rs 10 million is allocated for new shelters, specialized training for caregivers and a transitional home. To promote gender equality, the national gender equality policy is extended to all sectors to ensure that gender is fully integrated into decision-making. Rs 5 million are allocated for an incubator dedicated to women as part of the SME program. New laws are also being developed to guarantee a minimum female representation of 25% on the boards of directors of parapublic organizations. Women applying for a loan will no longer need the consent of their spouse. The corresponding law will be amended. A She Invents project will be set up to further promote women in research and innovation.
