A violent stabbing that occurred on Wednesday night at the public beach of St-Félix caused the death of Jaisen Sooreeah (22 years old). The drama unfolded after the end of a national holiday to celebrate the Tamil New Year there. The victim, residing in Suriname, went to the beach with a relative and two friends to have fun on Tuesday evening. The course of the night is quite vague for this group.

According to the first elements collected, the events occurred around 12:35 a.m. Wednesday. Jaisen Sooreeah and his group were targeted by an individual, who allegedly attacked them with knives in circumstances which remain to be clarified. The victims were initially treated at the Souillac hospital before being urgently transferred to the Jawaharlal Nehru hospital in Rose-Belle.

Jaisen Sooreeah was in critical condition. Admitted to the intensive care unit, he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. The autopsy concluded that there was a stabbed wound to the chest, confirming the violent nature of the attack.

The other three victims, aged 20, 25 and 37, received treatment for injuries considered less serious before being allowed to leave the hospital. One of them was able to provide initial testimony to investigators, mentioning a sudden attack perpetrated by a man armed with a knife, for no apparent reason. However, the Chemin-Grenier Criminal Investigation Division considers that this information is not complete.

The investigation, opened for murder, quickly led to the arrest of a suspect during the day on Wednesday. He is a 37-year-old man, living in Rose-Belle. As of yesterday afternoon, he denied the crime. But, he confirms his presence at St-Felix beach Tuesday evening. Other arrests are planned to clarify this crime.

This tragedy arouses strong emotion in the region. Relatives of the victim denounce the growing insecurity on certain public beaches and demand a strengthening of police patrols, particularly during peak periods. For their part, the authorities are continuing their investigations to determine the motive for this deadly attack.
