One year after the municipal elections, Patrick Belcourt's observation is clear. During a press conference held this Thursday, April 16 at the St-Georges Hotel, the leader of En Avant Moris strongly criticized the management of the town of Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill, pointing out a lack of vision and cohesion within the local administration.

From the outset, Patrick Belcourt painted a worrying picture of the city situation. “We do not have justice, we do not have the competence, nor the cohesion necessary to build something solid for the country,” he declared. For the leader of En Avant Moris, municipal difficulties are only the reflection of deeper dysfunctions: “A country that does not advance is a country that goes backwards,” he added, broadening his analysis to the national context.

Faced with what he describes as “lack of clarity”, Patrick Belcourt calls for more transparency. He believes that a rigorous accountability exercise is necessary in order to enlighten city dwellers on the management of their municipality. “It is essential to come and clearly explain what is happening, not only in Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill, but also across the country,” he maintained, deploring a climate where certain decisions are taken without real visibility.

The political leader did not hide his disappointment with the internal functioning of the town hall. “During the first weeks, I was observant, but above all disappointed,” he confided. He explains that he approached this mandate with a constructive spirit, driven by the desire to submit concrete proposals, far from any excessive politicization.

Although he recognizes the commitment of certain municipal employees, he nevertheless insists on the absence of a strategic direction. “There is a difference between working hard and working smart,” he stressed. In his eyes, the inability to adapt locally is a symptom of national inertia.

Patrick Belcourt also deplores the absence of certain elected officials on the ground, believing that this distance from daily realities weakens social bonds. “It is rare to see certain advisors working with residents. However, this is where trust is built,” he said.

On the financial level, his criticisms are more incisive. Relying on his expertise, he claims to have examined the municipal accounts and to have detected anomalies. “We are seeing abnormally high expenses and delays in certain projects,” he said. In conclusion, the leader of En Avant Moris calls for increased rigor in the management of public funds to meet the expectations of those administered.
