Faced with a rapid and worrying drop in the water level at the Mare-aux-Vacoas reservoir, whose filling rate is currently at 45%, restrictions on the distribution of drinking water will come into force from next week in several regions of the country supplied by this main reservoir.
According to available information, the level of the Mare aux Vacoas reservoir continues to decrease at an alarming speed, particularly as a result of the rainfall deficit recorded in recent weeks. This situation pushes the authorities to take measures to preserve available reserves and ensure equitable distribution of water to consumers.
The regions affected by these restrictions include the sectors served by the Rivière-Noire, Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill, Quatre-Bornes, Moka/St-Pierre, Vacoas and Curepipe systems.
The Mare aux Vacoas reservoir, the country's main freshwater reservoir, plays an essential role in supplying water to thousands of homes across the island. The preservation of this resource remains more than ever a collective priority.
