Descent of the MSAW at La Marie: animal rescuer Sindy Legrand defends her shelter

Animal rescuer Sindy Legrand was arrested, then released during the day of Tuesday July 28, after a raid by the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) on her shelter located in La Marie, Vacoas.

This intervention followed allegations of animal abuse. However, according to Sindy Legrand, the officers did not observe any cases of mistreatment on site. She was ultimately arrested due to the lack of a building permit for her shelter, Marley Animal Rescue Community.

The rescuer explains that she moved into the premises about two months ago and says that the transfer of the license is still in progress. She also claims to have been the victim of false allegations and claims that she was asked to no longer take in animals.

Sindy Legrand indicates that this is not the first time that she has faced such a situation. According to her, her shelter can accommodate between 200 and 250 animals.

“Everyone complains about the presence of stray dogs on the streets. My shelter can accommodate between 200 and 250 animals. This should come as a relief to the authorities. I don’t understand why I am being targeted,” she says.
