Mauritius is banking on a new strategic partnership to accelerate the development of its energy sector. The Council of Ministers approved the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, paving the way for cooperation in several areas, including renewable energy, clean hydrogen, energy efficiency and technologies related to the fight against climate change.
The agreement will establish a framework for collaboration between the Mauritian Ministry of Energy and Public Services and the Saudi Ministry of Energy. It provides in particular for exchanges of expertise, information and good practices in order to support the development of the energy sector.
This cooperation will cover several areas, including hydrocarbons, gas, refining, petrochemicals, electricity, clean hydrogen, renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy storage.
The two countries also intend to work on technologies linked to the fight against climate change, digital transformation, cybersecurity applied to the energy sector as well as the development of infrastructure intended to improve access to energy.
