Seizure of 100 kg of cannabis: The shadow of a 3rd suspect looms over the departure for Réunion

The High Profile Probe of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) on the spectacular seizure of 100 kilos of zamal in Reunion Island on July 26 could soon reach a new milestone. Investigators are now focusing their research on a third man, seen alongside Yogajee Govind, alias Gulshan (42 years old), and Ravindra Chimajee (38 years old), in a vehicle near a hotel in Le-Morne, a few hours before the operation which led to the seizure of the Speedboat, belonging to the latter.

The systematic decryption of video surveillance images made it possible to establish that the trio was on the scene on the night of July 25 to 26. However, according to the first elements of the investigation, only this unidentified man left the vehicle to reach the beach, while Yogajee Govind and Ravindra Chimajee left in the car. For the ADSU, this nocturnal movement raises serious questions.

Investigators favor the theory that this mysterious individual was part of the crew that made a clandestine crossing to La-Réunion in order to recover the bags of drugs. They are now seeking to confirm his route and are trying to establish whether he actually passed through the private property of the hotel to access the shore. With this in mind, the establishment's assistance was requested and several security agents who worked between July 25 and 27 should be heard.

The bloodhounds' interest in this hotel is not trivial. The establishment has a Boat House offering nautical activities to its customers. According to information collected by the police, Ravindra Chimajee regularly hires the services of sonSpeedboat there, which gives him, or his representative, authorized access to the facilities.

The information transmitted by the Reunion authorities also strengthens the suspicions of Mauritian investigators. During the interception carried out by the gendarmerie at Bras-Panon, a Speedboat managed to escape. Its description as well as its registration number would correspond to the boat belonging to Ravindra Chimajee.

This version contrasts with the statements of the principal concerned, who affirms that his boat mysteriously disappeared at the very moment when the ADSU carried out its seizure, Monday July 27. An explanation that hardly convinces investigators, especially since Ravindra Chimajee was located in Le-Morne just a few hours before this alleged disappearance. The Speedboat is currently sequestered at the National Coast Guard (NCG) in Rivière-Noire, where scientific samples have been taken. The results are still awaited.
