Kick-off of the “CEB Solar Photovoltaic Scheme” intended for Mauritian households. The Central Electricity Board (CEB) has been registering and processing applications for two days already.
This aid plan allows individuals to switch to solar energy. Households will be able to equip themselves with photovoltaic panels at their own expense, with now a mandatory battery system to store energy and use it in the evening, for at least three hours.
To register, you must complete a form with the CEB and pay Rs 2,000 processing fee. Once the green light is obtained, installation can be done at your own expense. Then, you must submit the installation certificate signed by the installer and sign the connection agreement, before commissioning by the CEB.
The maximum capacity is set at 10 kilowatts per household.
Two options are offered to consumers: either consume their own electricity to reduce the bill, or inject the surplus into the CEB network. In this case, electricity is purchased at around Rs 4.20 per kilowatt/hour and credited each month to the customer's account.
The CEB specifies that customers who have declared their photovoltaic installations since last November will be regularized under this new plan.
The organization is banking on this initiative to achieve 60% renewable energy in the energy mix by 2035.
