Elements of the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit arrested an unemployed man (29 years old) as part of the investigation into the robbery of a gas station in Floréal. A search of his home in Cité-Mangalkhan led to the discovery of seven packets of cigarettes. During his interrogation, he confessed and admitted having participated in the robbery with several accomplices. He was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division in Curepipe for further investigation. He is also wanted following an arrest warrant issued by the Grand-Port court.
The armed robbery occurred at a Floréal gas station in the early hours of July 28. Three hooded individuals burst into the store. One was equipped with a knife and a screwdriver, a second brandished a saber, while the third grabbed the money that was in the box left open. The criminals also took two cartons of cigarettes before fleeing towards Cité-Mangalkhan. The loot is estimated at around Rs 70,000, to which can be added cigarettes worth Rs 4,800. No one was injured.
