Four road accidents took place on the evening of Saturday June 6, 2026, notably in Pamplemousses, Montagne-Blanche, Camp-de-Masque-Pavé and Grand-Bois. Three of these cases involve drivers who had high blood alcohol levels. The police investigation continues to determine the circumstances and exact causes of the accidents.
In Grand-Bois, a 24-year-old from the locality was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday. He was at the wheel of a car involved in a collision with two other vehicles, one of which belonged to a police inspector assigned to the anti-drug squad. According to information, the driver, who had a blood alcohol level of 49 micrograms, was placed in a sobering-up cell, then detained at the Camp-Diable police station. He will be charged with the offense of “driving motor vehicle with alcohol concentration above prescribed limit”.
On the other hand, the police arrested a Trainee Nurse Officer in Pamplemousses on Saturday evening. His vehicle collided with another driven by a 29-year-old resident of Terre-Rouge. Results: four injured, including an eight-year-old child. The two vehicles were traveling in the direction of Belle-Vue Harel.
The driver was accompanied by her child and two people aged around fifty. All were injured and were admitted to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Hospital (SSRN). According to cross-references, both vehicles suffered significant damage. A breathalyzer test carried out on the Trainee Nurse Officer was positive. The young man had 78 micrograms of alcohol in his blood. Saturday evening, he was placed in a sobering up cell at the Pamplemousses police station.
Furthermore, a third accident occurred in Montagne-Blanche around 9 p.m. A master's car, with three women on board, left the road and ended up hitting a tree. The driver, aged 31, as well as the two other passengers, residents of the East, suffered slight injuries.
According to information, they were driving towards Sevastopol from Montagne-Blanche when the driver lost control. It was raining and the road was slippery. A breathalyzer test carried out on the driver was positive. She had 55 micrograms of alcohol in her blood.
The fourth accident, in Camp-de-Masque-Pavé, involved a bus. The vehicle ended up hitting a wall. The driver, a 44-year-old resident of Sevastopol, was driving in the direction of Flacq when he lost control of the vehicle around 7:40 p.m. The bus first hit a parked car, damaged the roof of a garage before hitting a bus stop. The vehicle then continued its journey for around a hundred meters before crashing into the fence wall of a house.
