“The two rupees taken from each liter of gasoline during the Covid-19 period would not have been used to finance vaccines.” This is what Acting Prime Minister Shakeel Mohamed said. This statement was made following a meeting with the Saudi Ambassador to Mauritius, Fisent Meshel Altemyat, this afternoon in Ébène.

He said he understood the population's frustration with the rising prices of gasoline and diesel, but maintained that the situation in the Middle East left the government no other room for maneuver.

Furthermore, the interim Prime Minister thanked the ambassador for the donation of 300 doses of vaccines against Covid-19. These doses are intended for pilgrims aged 65 and over, called to go to Mecca.
