The loved ones of Ganeshan Darmen Irlen, a 59-year-old entrepreneur from Pointe-aux-Sables, live in anguish. Arrested on June 19 at King Fahd airport in Dammam with drugs in his luggage, the Mauritian is being held in detention in Saudi Arabia. In Mauritius, Rama Valayden, Senior Counsel, proclaims his innocence. Convinced that the entrepreneur has been trapped, the family lawyer takes steps so that he can benefit from on-site legal defense.

This Friday, July 24, Me Rama Valayden sent a new correspondence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dhananjay Ramful: “After having obtained information on this matter, I very respectfully ask you to take the necessary measures to ensure the defense of Mr. Irlen in Saudi Arabia. I contacted a lawyer there and it appears that the family will not be able to afford the costs of their legal defense. »

The lawyer also sent a file written by his team. According to this document, the entrepreneur had participated in an online lottery during confinement and announced to his loved ones that he had won the jackpot. “The lot involved unclaimed inheritance funds reallocated to people in need. The transaction had to be done through a Japanese bank,” explains Me Valayden.

In 2024, Ganeshan Irlen traveled to Uganda at the expense of the alleged organizers to collect his winnings, estimated at USD 10.5 million. However, the delivery of the money was postponed several times. Becoming suspicious, the Mauritian wanted to give up, but an email warning him that it was his last chance convinced him to try a final trip.

His interlocutors then allegedly gave him a suitcase presented as containing legal documents relating to his winnings and sent him to Saudi Arabia. Upon arrival at Dammam airport on June 19, the suitcase was found to contain drugs.
