Grand-Baie - Theft of a gas cylinder: four months in prison for the complainant's son

A theft deeply shook a family and the matter was settled in court. A 49-year-old resident of Grand-Baie filed a complaint after a gas cylinder disappeared from his home. The Criminal Investigation Division's investigation led to the arrest of three suspects, including the complainant's son.

The complainant, a resident of La Salette Road in Grand-Baie, filed a complaint for the theft of a red gas cylinder worth Rs 1,300. The theft was committed during the period from Saturday July 25 at 9 a.m. to Tuesday July 28 at 9 a.m. in the outdoor kitchen of his house.

In his statement, he indicated that he strongly suspected his son, aged 24, of being involved in this affair. The location where the cylinder was located is not covered by video surveillance.

Investigations carried out by the Grand-Baie criminal police led to the arrest of three men on July 29. They are Mohammad Zafaar J., 29 years old, living in Cap-Malheureux, Louis Yohan L., 19 years old, homeless, and Ganeswar B., 24 years old, a resident of Grand-Baie.

During their interrogations, the three suspects made confessions. They are involved in thefts which are the subject of police investigations. Ganeswar B. admitted his involvement in the theft of the gas cylinder.

The three accused were charged with theft before the Rivière-du-Rempart court and were convicted. Mohammad Zafaar J. was sentenced to one month in prison, Louis Yohan L. to three weeks in prison and Ganeswar B. was sentenced to four months in prison.
