After solving a case of duck theft last month, the Petite-Rivière CID has this time resolved a case of theft of terrestrial turtles of the Radiata species.
The theft was committed in a sanctuary located in Gros-Cailloux, in the west of the island, between May 31 and June 3. According to an official at the establishment, the value of the six stolen turtles is estimated at Rs 320,000. The investigation, carried out by sleuths from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Petite-Rivière and the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU), under the responsibility of Inspector Jules, quickly made it possible to identify the alleged perpetrators.
This Monday, a first suspect, a resident of Petite-Rivière, was arrested. During his interrogation, he declared having sold the six turtles to a resident of Curepipe for the sum of Rs 125,000.
A police raid carried out at the latter's home resulted in the recovery of the six stolen turtles. Both suspects were taken into police custody as part of the investigation.
