In the North: sixteen houses robbed for electric cables

A gang of four individuals – two thieves and two fences – was dismantled after a series of 16 burglaries committed between March and May 2026 in new houses or houses under construction in the north of the island. The investigation was led by the Northern Division’s Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU).

The police stations of Trou-aux-Biches and Grand-Baie had recorded an increase in thefts on construction sites and in unoccupied second homes, for a total of sixteen cases reported between March and May 2026. Faced with this wave, DCIU Northern investigators launched an operation which led them to four suspects, three men and a woman. In the sights of thieves: mainly electrical cables, plumbing and electrical tools, aluminum doors, sound systems, air conditioners, electrical conduits, fans and lighting, among others.

The first accused are Homesh Kumar Pohoop, known as “Keshnil”, aged 20, and Lovind Kumar Shubham Pohoop, alias “Lizie Kase”, an electrician aged 29, both residing in Triolet. Subjected to close interrogation, the duo confessed, admitting to having stolen six air conditioners and having resold four of them. The search of Lizie Kase's home resulted in the seizure of several tools and electrical appliances. The two men also led investigators to several burglary sites, some of whose owners did not yet know they had been victims of theft.

The investigation then led to a third suspect, known by the nickname “Gandhi”, aged 31, suspected of having acquired four of the stolen air conditioners. Implicated, the thirty-year-old named his cousin, “Anu”, to whom he had resold the devices. She was in turn arrested by DCIU Northern. The police investigation continues.
