MASA: the redistribution of Rs 8.3 million paid by MBC provokes reactions

The Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) recently paid Rs 8.3 million to the Mauritius Society of Authors (MASA) for copyright.

MASA has started to redistribute these royalties to the artists concerned. Payments relate to broadcasts made on MBC Rodrigues between 2021 and 2024, as well as on MBC TV for the years 2021, 2022 and 2024.

This distribution, however, raises questions. Artist Rico Clair believes that the amount paid to him is insufficient. He announces that a meeting with the management of MASA is planned in order to obtain explanations.

For his part, the director of MASA, Gérard Louise, affirms that this redistribution was carried out in compliance with procedures. He specifies that the sums paid correspond only to arrears of royalties owed by the MBC.
