(Miss) Moigandeeamal Iyemparooma, born May 21, 1926, celebrated her 100th birthday at a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity at St Hugh's Anglican Retirement Home, Rose-Hill.

The ministry presented him with a bouquet of flowers, a centenary medal, a certificate, a check for Rs 26,203 and a set of kitchen utensils. She also received a check for Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund as well as gifts from the Senior Citizen Council (SCC), represented for the event by Vinod Dookhit, District Representative of the Lower Plaines Wilhems senior associations within the Council.

Moigandeeamal Iyemparooma attended school until sixth grade before embarking on a career as a seamstress. She also worked part-time as a fabric painting instructor and demonstrated remarkable talent for creating patterns on canvas. After decades of dedicated service, she retired in 2015.

The centenarian enjoys a wide variety of foods, especially seafood. In her free time, she enjoys watching television and listening to radio news bulletins.

Despite age-related difficulties, she remains in relatively good health. She has retained good hearing, good vision, and is still able to walk with assistance.
