The curtain rose on a night of horror in Calodyne, which claimed the life of 44-year-old Gino Ronnie Bodha. During the reconstruction of the facts organized on Monday by the Goodlands CID, the main suspect, Maël Rose, returned in detail to the course of this deadly evening, against a backdrop of debt and drug consumption. The tragedy occurred on Wednesday May 13, at the deceased's home in Calodyne.
According to information collected on site, the second suspect, Ismaël Larhubarbe, also present during the reconstruction on Tuesday, described the victim's last moments. Gino Bodha, then on the ground and at the mercy of his attacker, allegedly begged for his life, repeating: “Sap mo lavie, sap mo lavi”, while Maël Rose strangled him.
Under heavy police protection, notably that of the Special Supporting Unit, Maël Rose reconstructed the facts inside the victim's house in Calodyne, where the violence had broken out. He claims to have gone there to claim a debt of Rs 3,600, which he said he wanted to use to buy milk for his child. Faced with the categorical refusal of Gino Bodha, who blamed him for his past linked to drugs, the situation quickly degenerated.
The tone rose before Maël Rose physically attacked the victim. He first tried to strangle him using the cord of his sweater, causing him to collapse on a sofa, then slide to the ground, still conscious.
It was at this moment that, according to the statements collected, Ismaël Larhubarbe entered the room, alerted by the sound of the struggle. He would have tried to intervene to calm the situation, but would have encountered threats from Maël Rose: “Don't come home, don't worry about that”.
The main suspect then allegedly strengthened the link by extending it with a string from his shorts, before using it to strangle Gino Bodha again, resulting in his death. After the incident, the two suspects allegedly tried to cover up the crime. Under pressure and alleged threats from Maël Rose, Ismaël Larhubarbe said he participated in the transport of the body, wrapped in a sheet and placed in the trunk of a car.
The duo then allegedly went to an ATM in Grand-Baie, where Rs 1,000 was withdrawn from the victim's account, before filling up with gasoline at a gas station. The remains were then abandoned in the La Nicolière region.
New development in the investigation into the murder of Gino Bodha. No traces of drugs were detected in the victim's body, according to the results of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report.
Two weeks after the death of the son of former minister Nando Bodha, investigators still favor the thesis according to which this resident of Calodyne was killed at his home before his body was transported to La Nicolière, where it was abandoned at the bottom of a ravine.
Two suspects are currently in custody in connection with this case.
