Investigators from the Major Crime Investigation Team are exploring a new lead in the investigation into the murder of Jonathan Koo, 40, who was killed in a hunt in Midlands. They are trying to establish a link between a case of poaching that occurred in La Marie, in Vacoas, the same night, and the murder of Jonathan Koo.
A new element attracts the attention of investigators. During the night of Jonathan Koo's death, an act of poaching was reported in a hunt at La Marie, in Vacoas. On site, the head of a freshly slaughtered wild boar was found.
Experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory immediately took samples and recovered the projectile embedded in the animal. The objective of investigators is to determine whether the caliber and type of bullet which killed the wild boar correspond to those of the weapon which cost the life of Jonathan Koo. No lead is overlooked to trace the shooter.
At the same time, CCTV images from the region were carefully extracted from memory cards to be analyzed by police IT specialists. Auditions also continue at a brisk pace. On Monday, two game wardens from Midlands were questioned for long hours by the police. They detailed their schedule during the night of Thursday June 11. And their statements have, for the moment, not yielded any compromising evidence. They were not arrested after their hearing.
Another incident was reported to Saint-Pierre police on Monday. Around 12:30 a.m., the warden of a hunt in the region alerted his management after hearing a loud detonation resembling a gunshot around 9:15 p.m. The Saint-Pierre police, supported by units from Lallmatie and the Emergency Response Service, inspected the area during a joint patrol. Although no suspicious elements were discovered on site, this is a new lead that investigators intend to take into consideration.
On the other hand, emotion was at its height on the morning of Tuesday June 16 at the Immaculate Conception Church, in Port-Louis, during the funeral of Jonathan Koo. His family, loved ones and friends came in large numbers to pay their last respects. They described a man deeply appreciated by those around him. The moment was particularly trying for those close to him.
