The agreement signed between the Ministry of Education and the Catholic Diocese of Port-Louis for the financial years 2025-2026, 2026-2027 and 2027-2028, relating to the payment of subsidies to the 46 primary schools operating under the aegis of the Roman Catholic Education Authority (RCEA), will be renewed. In line with the free primary education policy, the government will provide grants to RCEA based on an approved formula for the operation of these 46 institutions.
The approved grant includes:
• A provision for the operational costs of the 46 primary schools in the RCEA.
• Compensation for the use of private buildings under the control of the RCEA.
• A provision for minor renovation work and maintenance of infrastructure (toilets and classrooms).
• A management subsidy to cover the costs of the central administration of the 46 schools.
• Grants for educational programs.
This is what emerges from the decisions of the Council of Ministers of Friday July 31, 2026.
