Peaceful march of the PTA of St Joseph College with SeDEC and students against “bullying”

The Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA) of Saint Joseph College in Curepipe, in collaboration with SeDEC, organized a peaceful march in the streets of the City of Lights this Thursday, July 16 in order to raise awareness among the population about the fight against school harassment (bullying). Students, parents, teachers and several personalities participated in this initiative placed under the sign of solidarity.

The president of the PTA, Diane Ami-Lepois, explained that this mobilization follows cases of harassment recently reported within the establishment, which had placed the college in the spotlight.

Faced with this situation, parents have decided to make their voices heard. “A child who comes to school must be safe. As parents, it is this message of awareness that we wish to convey through this march, to young people, parents and all of society. Bullying is unacceptable and it is not acceptable to attack the weakest,” she declared.

For his part, the head boy of the college, Vince Ampoule, wanted to highlight “the Josephian brotherhood” which unites the students of the establishment. “An attack on one of our students is an attack on all of us. We don’t want any of our brothers to feel at risk at school,” he said.

The march was also marked by the presence of Minister Ajay Gunness, who came to show his support for this initiative. He stressed that school bullying had no place in educational establishments. “Bullying has no place in schools. A child victim of bullying can be traumatized for life,” he declared, adding that the government is fully aware of the extent of the phenomenon and that an envelope was provided in the last Budget to finance awareness campaigns against school bullying.

This peaceful march also saw the collaboration of other Curepipe colleges.
